Small Worlds® Workshops

Small Worlds® are in person workshops that create a safe, welcoming space to learn about the lived experiences of people from around the world. These events are hosted by members of our weekly drop-in (Belfast Friendship Club), which brings together newcomers and locals in an inclusive community setting.

Guided by an experienced facilitator, each workshop fosters a respectful atmosphere where participants can engage openly and meaningfully.

How it works

During the workshop, small groups of 4 to 6 participants rotate between hosts from different countries. Each host shares their personal story—covering experiences such as:

  • Growing up in a different culture, part of the world, or religious background

  • Living far from family and friends

  • Facing the challenges of settling in NI

  • The various reasons people have moved to NI

“Heart-warming, hard-hitting, genuine and touching experience”

Each conversation lasts 15 to 20 minutes, allowing participants to ask questions before moving on to the next host. Workshops typically run for 1.5 to 2 hours, welcoming 20 to 24 participants with around 4 hosts sharing their stories..

Small Worlds® offers a unique opportunity to build empathy, challenge assumptions, and deepen understanding through personal connection.
